This is Robocar – a driverless, electric, ‘connected’ race car which will be part of a coming Roborace Championship.
Formula E and London-based futures investment firm Kinetik have announced the first ever driverless car competition in which electric cars will race without any drivers before 2016 Formula E Championship races, directed by engineers using real time data algorithms.
As part of the announcement the Robocar was unveiled. Chief design officer Daniel Simon, known for his work on Hollywood sci-fi films such as Tron: Legacy and Oblivion, but also a former Senior Designer at Bugatti, says of Robocar: “We’re living in a time where the once separated worlds of the automobile and artificial intelligence collide with unstoppable force. My goal was to create a vehicle that takes full advantage of the unusual opportunities of having no driver without ever compromising on beauty.
“The Roborace is as much about competition as it is entertainment,” continues Simon (below). “Therefore – and quite unusual in today’s racing world – beauty was very high on our agenda and we work hard to merge the best performance with stunning styling.”
