The Magnificent Seven, Rebooted

Denzel, Ethan, Chris and co update the man movie classic in Australian cinemas from September 29.

The 1960 film The Magnificent Seven, starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and more is one of the great man movies of all time. Seven hardbitten gunfighters recruited to defend the homes of an oppressed Mexican village, each with their own reasons for joining. Based on an Akira Kurosawa Japanese classic, it stands the test of time as a Western with a difference.

Which, of course, hasn’t stopped Hollywood taking a whole new look at the film and updating it for a new generation. Which is what director Antoine Fuqua has done, bring together Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier) to defend the sleepy town of Rose Creek against the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard).

A motley collection of outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns, they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming and as in the original, they might be seven mercenaries… but they’re fighting for more than money this time.

We. Can’t. Wait.
