Happy 40th birthday to this cool Swedish A-lister and our current Icon Of Style in the Spring issue…
What’s he been in recently?
Alexander Skarsgård recently rocked The Legend Of Tarzan, in which he showed men everywhere that a) gym work can give you the best body in the world and that b) that body can snare you Margot Robbie (at least as Jane).
Where Else Have I Seen Him?
Skarsgård was awesome in the HBO vampire series True Blood, in which he played baddie-goodie fanger Eric Northman for nine seasons. He also starred in hard hitting TV war drama Generation Kill and will next be seen in Big Little Lies, which is the high-profile adaptation of Aussie author Liane Moriarty’s novel that co-stars Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. Movie-wise, keep an eye out for him in cracking black cop comedy War On Everyone, which was directed by John Michael McDonagh, who gave us the awesome The Guard and Calvary. Check out the trailer:
So, What’s The Skarsgård Style?
As is typical of a Swede, he’s all about cool minimalism. Being tall with a god-like physique helps, but Alexander can rock any look with ease because he’s all about simple clothes that fit his frame perfectly. In London just before the Tarzan premiere, he looked a billion bucks in a patterned, short-sleeved shirt that’d be appropriate for a summer vacation. He paired this bold shirt with dark, cropped trousers worn with loafers and a pair of square aviators that framed his chiseled face. The ensemble was simple but sensational. Then for the big Tarzan premiere he went for a sleek and sharp black suit worn with a black tie, white shirt and white pocket square. Again, simple and elegant. Most often, though, he’ll be spotted in T-shirt, jeans and sneakers—hardly cutting edge but it works for him for three reasons: fit, fit and fit. Make it your mantra. Not for nothing is Alexander going out with Alexa Chung, who’s among the world’s most stylish women.
