Six Netflix Shows You Can’t Miss This Year

If you’re a Netflix addict, set your reminder alerts for these 2017 shows.

El Chapo

If Narcos hasn’t given you your fix of Latin American drug lords on the small screen, then Netflix has you covered. The series traces the rise and fall of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, the Mexican drug cartel boss and one of the world’s most notorious criminals, who was extradited to the US to face criminal charges in January this year.

Jason Momoa (the strapping Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, then Aquaman in Batman vs. Superman) stars in this bloody historical drama about the violent clashes between European settlers and native tribes to control the lucrative fur trade in North America in the 18th Century. Season One is made up of six hour-long episodes — perfect for binge watching.

Based on the book ‘Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit’, this series follows two FBI agents interviewing imprisoned serial killers in a bid to solve open cases. Produced by David Fincher — the master of psychological thrillers (Zodiac, Fight Club, Seven, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and executive producer of Netflix favourite House of Cards — as well as Charlize Theron.

Jason Bateman tries his hand at a series role in a crime drama about the murky world of drug money laundering, as Bateman’s character scrambles to pay off a debt to a Mexican drug lord. Details are under wraps but Bateman is co-directing the series and Laura Linney plays his wife.

Iron Fist

The fourth of five Marvel franchises to be turned into Netflix Originals before the crossover miniseries The Defenders later this year (with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the Punisher), this series is based on the 1974 comic about a New York billionaire who also happens to be a martial arts expert that possesses the power of the Iron Fist.

The first Netflix Original to be shot in Germany, this German-language mystery family saga focuses on the disappearance of two children in a small town with a secretive, supernatural flavour. Think Stranger Things in Deutsch, ja?
