Five reasons we love men’s style icon, David Beckham, on his 41st birthday.
Whether he’s mixing with heads of government in his role with UNICEF, or launching his latest fragrance, or taking in a sporting fixture with his kids, David Beckham always looks the goods. He does formal with aplomb, he rocks a well-tailored suit like few others, and on the casual front, he can pull off double denim or upmarket biker style with barely a strand of his awesome hair out of place.
Long acknowledged as one of the UK’s power couples, Becks and Victoria are raising a brood which appear destined to continue the famous name’s reign. Eldest son Brooklyn has a budding career as a photographer, having already shot campaigns for Burberry, Romeo has now modelled for the famous brand more than once, while Cruz and Harper are regularly seen accompanying Dad to all manner of events. Unlike some famous parents, Becks is clearly besotted with his progeny.
Now he’s 40, it’s beginning to seem quite a long time ago that Beckham had a stellar football career which encompassed seasons and titles with Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, Milan and Paris St Germain. He’s the first English footballer to win league titles in four different countries. Not to mention an amazing international career – 115 caps for his country.
One highly publicised scandal about infidelity aside – which was met mostly by a regal silence – Becks is a model famous person, always appearing dignified, reserved and in control. Probably why he has been associated with UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador since 2005, launching The David Beckham UNICEF Fund to help children in danger last year.
One of the most recognisable names on the planet, Beckham has had lucrative associations with some of the largest brand names on the planet during and after his career, including adidas, Pepsi and Armani. More recently his campaigns for H&M, with his Bodywear Essentials range, and his own fragrances – the most recent being David Beckham Aqua Classic – have cemented his position as an enduring brand name with an astute sense of the “right” relationship. All that and he’s only 40!
