The classic three-stripe Adilettes have undergone reinvention after reinvention this year, and here are five of our favourites.
Released only this month, these luxurious velvet slides retain the trademark three stripes in two new majestically named colourways, Collegiate Green and Mystery Blue. They look great, but we’re not too sure how the premium velvet overlays will stand up at the beach this summer, though . . .
This collaboration with Belgian designer Raf Simons comes in two simple colourways — black and cream — featuring an embossed logo on the comfortable moulded midsole as well as gold printed detailing across the front strap. These sleek minimalist slides are more expensive than your standard sandals, retailing for US$142 (AU$190).
Adidas’ high-fashion take on a humble sandal best known for footballers wearing them in the shower, featuring a wooden midsole above a rubber outsole, as well as a polyurethane foot strap carrying the brand’s signature three stripes. Another pricier option at US$120 (AU$160).
Sneaker heads rejoiced when when style writer Jazerai Allen-Lord tweeted a picture of the much-anticipated Yeezy Adilettes in June, the first publicly available image of the concept. But Allen-Lord later confirmed the eggshell blue slides were just a sample, and a retail release is far from a guarantee.
Another interpretation that’s unlikely to see the light of day, but Ukrainian designer Oleksandr Shestakovych imagined what it would be like if Adidas applied its revolutionary Boost technology — the spongy PU material they’re using in runners’ soles — to their humble slides. Looks a little bit like a makeshift sandal fashioned out of a styrofoam esky . . .
