Mr Paola Zegna, Chairman of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group, was in Australia once more on Monday evening to present the annual Ermenegildo Zegna Wool Awards – the oldest international award for wool growing, first instituted in 1963.
A gala dinner held on the terrace of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney saw the “Extrafine Wool Trophy” and the “Vellus Aureum Trophy”, among others, presented to the very best Australian superfine wool producers.
All the wool produced and entered in the awards – open to both Australia and New Zealand woolgrowers – is purchased by Zegna for use in the production of their fine Italian suiting, as has been the case for more than half a century.
“We’ve been celebrating the best quality wool since 1963 and it is always a pleasure to award the efforts and achievements of the woolgrowers,” said Paolo Zegna. “It has to be noted that this year both the 1st and 2nd ranked fleeces in the Vellus Aureum Trophy, with respectively 9.9 and 9.8 micron, overtook the previous world record of fineness.”
